red lips in the right context are unbeatable, and these three wear it undeniably well. i love how the red looks almost tinged with cool tones of blue against paler skin and keeping the bold lip the focus keeps it completely modern and fresh. i haven't found the perfect shade of red lipstick yet- it seems to be one of those elusive things like finding the perfect concealer shade or the most blissfully comfortable stilettos. i wanted to post a picture of alek wek wearing red lipstick cos she wears it like no other, but i haven't found the exact photo yet, i'm sure i will eventually. just like finding my own shade.

mary kate at the CDFA a few years back. i would love to own this luscious oversized clutch!!! love how she's unexpectedly paired it with the long white satin, this is the only shot i've seen of the hemline being assymetric at the front, but i actually prefer it like this. the rest of it is so covered and simple that a bit of leg balances it out better.

michelle jank has been around for awhile but i feel she is quite underappreciated even though her recent 2008-2009 collection (some pics above) had unanimous rave reviews. she has been designing jewellery and limited ranges of clothing for a few years now, her still was until recently synonymous with whimsical bric-a-brac bowerbird femininity until her starker more sophisticated aesthetic was showcased in her latest clothing collection. her statement neckpieces are delightfully playful and chic all at once, and the draping of her almost liquid-like clothing collection is simply unforgettable. the top picture is michelle wearing one of her own designs.

from Elle UK 2004- always a sucker for a sparkly 1920's-esque dress. stella tennant is a pretty amazing model too setting the bar for androgynous beauty with an eccentric aristocratic ancestry too! she is both fiercely modern yet perfectly classical all at the same time. to be a chameleon is a true sign of a supermodel.

a gorgeous story and simple film that i enjoyed as a child and still do!! Le Ballon Rouge by Albert Lamorisse. i have a small soft covered version at home.....wish i had the larger hardcover one! the black and white then the vintagey coloured balloons are so......uplifting? lame pun i know, but definitely suitable! a french classic.

there seems to be a current fascination with the vaguely macabre in the jewellery world, focusing on mourning jewellery and momento mori eg. the pamela love craze. i love this as i love the fact that fashion is definitely moving in the way of contrasts often styling these pieces with feminine dreamy lace or minimalist blacks and structured pieces to avoid the overly goth look. gisèle ganne is a french jewellery designer with exquisite pieces of mourning, black widow and divorce jewellery. mourning jewellery has been worn for decades particularly in the victorian era to immortalize and remember the dead, also of a way to remind people of their inevitable mortality. though i can never get past purely pretty pieces of jewellery i love that fashion at the moment is focusing on jewellery with an interesting story and history.
