alfie

while the 2004 remake of Alfie wasn't the best movie ever made, it certainly wasn't as terrible as i thought when i first watched it. the second time round i actually enjoyed it, regardless of the fact that jude law was less charming larrikin and more just.....sleazy? the scene that really struck me was when alfie first meets nikki (sienna miller) at a new years eve party. the whole scene had a feeling of whimsy, free spiritedness. it was a whirlwind of fun and bohemia. it was one of those moments that you look at and just think- i wish that was my life!! of course nikki had plenty of her own problems that were addressed later in the film, but in that instant of falling snow, soft yellow light, tipsy giggling, perfect makeup, cheeky grin and enviable clothes......Nikki stole the show.

while i've already posted about the wonders of the deep blue sea there is rarely anything more mystical than outer space. there's something so ancient and majestic about the sheer vastness of the skies. stars have been used to predict fortunes, tell epic stories and legends, guide travellers, the skies have been there to house the gods. the less known about outer space, the more mysterious and intriguing. for earth to feel so very insignificant amongst all the other planets, galaxies, stars and moons, it really does seem more improbable than likely that humans could be the only highly evolved lifeforms in the universe. these images are all unbelievably beautiful and would be amazing to see through a telescope. the names in astronomy themselves are beautiful; supernova, nebula, constellation, galaxy, milky way. the more i observe science and the breakdown of its complexities the more i can appreciate how utterly amazing, ingenius and beautiful it all is. these are all taken by the Hubble telescope using various colour technology techniques.

eau de rose

sasha by the sea. this cool editorial shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin appeared in Vogue Paris March 2008, somehow the pinks and the clear blue sea seem made for each other. i actually have this issue of Vogue at home and the other editorials are just as amazing. there really is something just a little bit more magical about Vogue Paris that is missing in all other Vogues. guess it's just the 'je ne sais quoi' french magic for you!

bill henson

bill henson's works have certainly drawn a great deal of criticism and controversy over the years. last year he was accused of being a paedophile with many of his works taken down from major galleries around australia. it's sad to see such beautiful art perverted like that. while i haven't posted the more provocative subjects of his works and while most of his pieces are dark, haunting and subversive- i still think there is a line between art and pornography. well....mostly. i'm not going to think too deeply about what exactly constitutes art but it's easy to see that bill henson's works are not merely for shock value, there is a deep still beauty throughout all his pieces. focusing mainly on transitions, whether this is the fleeting moment between day and night or the confusion between childhood and adulthood his works definitely reflect this ephemeral quality. most of the photos here are from his Paris Opera Project though one or two are earlier and later untitled works.

daria

i love daria's look, it is pure natural beauty. she looks like she'd be really easy going and totally enjoy life and travelling too. the first photo appeared in Glamour and Vogue Italia (also in Vogue Australia) it was an article about daria and showed the inside of her wonderful apartment. the raw brickwork, earthiness and that huge expanse of pure white rumpled sheets is just so her! she has been hugely successful as a model with a career spanning many covershoots, editorials and ad campaigns; love her uniqueness and her surprising versatility.

home sweet home

if i wasn't doing what i'm doing with my life right now, one of my dream jobs would be to be an interior designer. that's why i'm always on the look out for houses/apartments/castles/cottages etc that catch my eye in any way. my tastes for interiors are eclectic....from ultra starkly modern with fishtank tables and colourful abstract art on white white walls, to tastefully arty with beautiful clusters of photography and culturally relevant artefacts to absolutely completely riotously cluttered and vintage. i love it all. and this is just one idea that i also love.

though they have long gone their separate ways i love the freedom, youth and passionate aura that seemed to surround this couple. in many ways these photos remind me of yoko ono and john lennon.....perhaps this is a deliberate reference?
