balmain spring 2010

.

i'm sure i'm not the first or last person to be talking about christophe decarnin's latest balmain display of gorgeousness. this season while sticking to his usual sexy rock and roll aesthetic he showed a collection that reminds me of a mix between bond girls/androids/military chic/grecian/bondage/joan of arc. of course it all works, though i'm not sure how much it might work on a regular non-modelesque kind of girl. the fabrics just look like liquid metal, the decayed sequins and loose fits scream luxe rather than disco, the draping is fluid but also offset with edgier and more structured silhouettes. my favourites are abbey lee's liquid gold mesh dress with the 'flower bullets' belt, magda in the skinniest pants and sequin top, abbey's slashed gold sequin number and freja's bronzed grecian dress. balmain is still the covetable hot ticket in town for the cashed up and uber trendy.
